Now that we can’t advertise salaries what should we do?

From September 1st 2018 it will officially become illegal to advertise salaries. Why? Discrimination

 

Discrimination - distinguishing differences between things or treating someone as inferior based on their race, sex, national origin, age or other characteristics

 

As per Albany v Newark & Sons, salary now comes under ‘other characteristics’

 

In this case Mr Albany was working for a competitor in an equivalent role. Seeing he was being paid far less caused him undue stress. He was made to feel inferior. Had the salary not been advertised, this would not have happened

 

So in the new world where we can't advertise salaries anymore, how soon into the conversation should salary expectations be discussed?

 

Tutti Recruitti has always advertised salaries in order not to waste people's valuable time applying for roles not financially suitable for them

 

Will this affect your company's hiring or your approach to applying for jobs?

 

Or....will it change absolutely nothing, as it appears nobody actually bothers to advertise salaries anyway!
